Hair Sample
I want to do a DNA test for my personal knowledge only. I won’t let my wife or child know at this point. I am thinking of collecting some of my child’s hair sample. Could you please tell me how accurate a hair sample will be?

Testing using a hair sample is just as accurate as testing a buccal swab sample. However, please keep in mind that you will need to provide 7-10 hair samples with the root intact, which can be accomplished by individually plucking the hair from the scalp. Hair that has been shed or that was left on a hairbrush typically will not work, because the root is broken off.
It might be simpler (and less painful) to take a buccal swab sample, which usually provides better DNA samples.
Before performing the paternity test, we first need to do a viability test on the hair to determine if there is enough usable DNA in the hair samples. Only after this test can we proceed with the DNA test.
